The Fowler hop alpha acid utilization algorithm is the primary method for calculating IBU on the BeerTools.com website. It uses a fourth order polynomial to produce a smooth boil time/utilization curve. The results produced by the algorithm are similar to those obtained with the Rager formula but with the addition of gravity and pellet hops correction factors.
